How to read a KYC clause

Open the terms, use the find function, and you will know an operator's real position faster than reading anything written about it. Including this site.

Marketing pages are written to convert. Terms are written to be enforceable. When they disagree, the enforceable one is the one you agreed to.

Open the terms and search for these

"verification"

The core clause. You are looking for what conditions attach. If the answer is at any time, at our sole discretion, with no stated trigger, then you are at a triggered-KYC operator regardless of what the homepage says.

"sole discretion"

Count the occurrences. This phrase is what converts a stated policy into an option the operator can exercise whenever it chooses. A high count is not evidence of bad intent, and it is a good measure of how much of the relationship is at their election rather than yours.

"source of funds"

If it appears, the operator has reserved the right to make the heaviest request there is. Almost all of them have. Worth knowing which before rather than after.

"withdrawal limit"

Look for limits that apply specifically to unverified accounts, and for limits that tighten when a balance exceeds total deposits. Both exist in this market and both are exactly the clause a winning player meets.

"dormant" or "inactive"

What happens to a balance you leave alone. Timeframes, fees, and whether funds can be forfeited. Rarely read, occasionally expensive.

"void" or "forfeit"

The circumstances under which winnings can be cancelled. Bonus abuse, multi accounting, prohibited jurisdictions, and in some terms much broader categories than those.

One date worth marking. Every Curacao licensed operator must update its player facing terms by 8 October 2026, covering account closures, dormant accounts, payouts, refunds and crypto transactions. If you read a Curacao operator's terms before then, read them again after. Most affiliate sites will not notice this happened.

What good looks like

Specific triggers rather than open discretion. Stated thresholds. A defined complaints route. Named excluded territories rather than a vague reference to prohibited jurisdictions. Clear language on what happens to a balance if an account is closed.

Few operators in this market score well on all of that. Knowing which score badly is still worth two minutes.

The limits of this exercise

Terms tell you what an operator may do, not what it does. A permissive clause at a business with a decade of paying people is a different proposition from the same clause at one with eight months of history. Read the terms, then read the operating record, then decide.

Gambling carries a negative expected return. Over enough bets the house edge wins by design, and no ranking on this site changes that. If it has stopped being a choice, free confidential help exists: Peluuri in Finland, Stödlinjen in Sweden, BZgA in Germany, and GamCare internationally.
