Exchange or self custody
Both routes work. They have completely different privacy properties, and almost nobody thinks about it before choosing.
Direct from an exchange
Convenient. Buy and send in one place, no second step, no extra fee.
What it exposes. The exchange holds your verified identity and a record showing you sent funds to a specific address. Where that address is a known casino deposit address, and many are labelled in commercial blockchain analytics datasets, the exchange has a record of you funding a gambling operator.
Some exchanges restrict transfers to gambling related addresses in some jurisdictions. Others simply record them.
Via a wallet you control
What changes. The exchange sees a withdrawal to your own address and nothing further. The casino sees a deposit from an address with no direct exchange link.
What does not change. Both hops are on a public ledger. Anyone analysing the chain can follow exchange to your wallet to casino, because that is what a public ledger is for. This is a meaningful reduction in what any single party records directly. It is not concealment.
What chain analysis actually achieves
The route that undoes all of it
Buying crypto with a card inside the casino cashier is the least private option available and the most expensive. The on-ramp processor runs full identity verification, records which wallet it funded, and your bank statement shows the charge. Cost is typically four to seven percent once fee and spread are counted.

Withdrawals matter too
Withdrawing to an exchange creates the same record in reverse, and some exchanges ask questions about the origin of incoming funds. Withdrawing to your own wallet avoids that, at the cost of a second transaction when you eventually want to convert.
The practical recommendation
Use your own wallet as the middle layer in both directions if privacy matters to you at all. It costs one extra transaction fee, which on a cheap chain is negligible, and it is the single highest value privacy habit available to a casino player.
If privacy does not matter to you, deposit directly and save the step. Just make the choice deliberately rather than by default.
