This is the least known and most expensive thing in online casino play, and it applies to third party slots rather than to in-house Originals.

How it works

A studio builds a slot and ships it to operators with several RTP configurations available. The operator picks one. Same artwork, same features, same maths structure, different return.

The spread across configurations can be several percentage points on the same title. For a player putting real volume through a game, that is the difference between a reasonable cost of entertainment and a considerably worse one.

How to check before you play

1. Open the game and find the info or paytable panel, usually behind an "i" icon or a menu.
2. Look for the stated RTP. Reputable studios include it and are generally required to.
3. Compare it against the studio's headline figure for that title, which is usually the highest configuration available.
4. If the in-game figure is materially lower, you are on a reduced configuration.

This takes about fifteen seconds and almost nobody does it.

Where operators do better than usual
